The best question at Q & A session after the screening of Beyond Borders was “Other than give money to CHIRLA, what can we do?”
Here are some very good answers to that question:
You can become involved in five ways:
1. Be a personal advocate for the right to migrate.
2. Actively support political candidates who are pro-immigrant.
3. Participate in events that demonstrate the size and breadth of our movement.
4. Engage in the national debate about immigration by writing
letters, calling elected officials and letting others know where you
stand.
5. Give generously of your time and money to migrant advocate and immigrant support groups.
The most important thing is don’t give up. This will be a twenty year
struggle and in the early years we will lose every battle. But it is
clearly wrong to judge where a person can live based on where they were
born and so in the end we will win. Responsible people will have the
right to live wherever they choose and the world will be a little bit
fairer because of your efforts.
